Ethical Code

This Ethical Code follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors elaborated by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

Textus & Musica (henceforth: T&M) is a scholarly peer-reviewed journal in the field of the Humanities (particularly Philology, Musicology, Manuscript Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Linguistics).

All the actors involved in the publication process – including editorial board members, referees and authors – must be aware of and comply with the ensuing list of ethical principles.

Responsibilities of the Journal and of the Referees

The articles submitted to T&M undergo a process of double-blind peer-review. Their acceptance for publication strictly depends on a positive assessment of their scientific qualities and originality. The two Referees, who may or may not be part of the journal’s Scientific Committee (“Comité scientifique”), are selected on the basis of their competences and qualification related to the articles’ subject matter(s).

Referees must not accept to review submissions if a (potential) conflict of interest is in place. The evaluation report, which must be anonymous, fair, detailed (as indicated in a specific form provided by T&M), respectfully expressed and constructive, is fully notified to the author(s). The Editorial Board verifies the compliance of the articles’ latest version with the Referees’ indications and makes the final decision on whether to publish or reject articles. The two Directors (one Philologist and one Musicologist) are responsible for the fairness and accuracy of the evaluation process.

The articles’ evaluation must only take into account their intellectual content; no discrimination will be made based on the authors’ gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship, political beliefs, academic status or other personal aspects. The Editorial Board and the Referees are required to assure strict confidentiality on the submitted manuscripts and all the materials involved in the evaluation, during the whole evaluation process. Once the evaluation process concluded, all the relevant materials are stored in the T&M database. Unpublished materials included in submitted articles must not be used or cited in publications authored by members of Editorial Board and Referees, unless explicit and written consent is given by the author(s).

Responsibilities of the Authors

Authors guarantee for the paternity and originality of the submitted articles and are held responsible for their scientific content. All the published and unpublished sources of the articles must be declared and cited properly. Submitted articles must not have been previously published or be concurrently considered for publication in other journals. In case of multiple authors, the submission must contain

the full indication of every authors. The corresponding author must ensure that the final version of the text was approved by every co-author. If other scholars significantly contributed to the research, their contribution must be duly acknowledged. The articles published on T&M can be re-published on websites and blogs, in accordance with the Creative Commons Licence Attribution-NonCommercial- No Derivs 3.0 Unported. The details of the first publication on T&M must be appropriately acknowledged.

Dealing with Misconduct

An Ethics committee is nominated by the Directors upon suggestion by the Editorial Board. The Ethics committee deals with ethical misconduct and impose sanctions where necessary. Sanctions must be commensurate to the severity of the infringement and the role of the individual committing misconduct.
