Giorgio Monari

Giorgio Monari is a musicologist, and a musician, and he has written about the theory of performance, history of musical concepts, early music, early music revival, and music in Latin America. He graduated cum laude in Modern languages and literatures (1992), and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Music history (2001) at Sapienza University of Rome, and M.Mus. in Choral music and conducting (1994) at Bari Conservatory. He taught music history at Sapienza University (2002-2011), and at Pontifical Gregorian University (2009-2016). He directs Musica Sapienza Coro at Sapienza University (Rome) since 2007. He was the art director of the Ruspoli Competition for Music and Musicology (2009-2018) and the editor of Miscellanea Ruspoli: Studi sulla musica dell’età barocca. He contributed Italian, English, Spanish, and Portuguese essays to multi-authored books, online publications and journals, and articles about medieval music to Il Medioevo (ed. Umberto Eco, 2011). He collaborated on the project Storia dei concetti musicali (Prin - Carocci). He is a member of the Núcleo Caravelas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
